Expanding the stable of 690 models, KTM has introduced the 690 Duke and 690 SMC for 2008. These are hard core, lightweight, powerful single-cylinder road bikes.
The 690 Duke, according to KTM is the most powerful street-legal single of all time with 65 horsepower from its 654cc powerplant. Unlike the big singles found in some competitors' machines, this 654cc unit is state-of-the-art, lightweight, compact and extremely potent.
A stiff, tubular space frame, fully adjustable suspension, and a low claimed wet weight (with no fuel) of 327 pounds, may make the Duke a canyon carver's dream come true.
Huge Brembo brakes, (four piston caliper gripping 320mm disc in front, and single piston caliper gripping 220mm in back) will haul the Duke down. Six gears will allow it to cruise comfortably at highway speed, but have the flexibility to deal aggressively with just about any situation.
The new 690 Duke complies with Euro 3 emissions standards, and also features a slipper clutch like many modern sportbikes.
